Have you ever been on a Stand-Up paddleboard? It is FUN! We highly recommend that you go practise from the beach, where there is no waves and shallow water. In general, we recommend that you keep the paddleboard in shallow water, if you are new at this activity. But once you got it down, get information from your dive center on where to go.
The island of Thulusdhoo is small, and could easily be paddled around. However, it does also have some of the best surfspots in the world, and you do not want to be caught surfing your kayak on these world famous waves. So again, make sure you get a good introduction of where to go, and what currents to look out for, before you jump in your kayak!
The Mangrove forest is recommended. You can sneak in really close on the wildlife.
There are so many different things you can see, snorkeling from the island of Thulusdhoo! If you go out from the long wooden pier, or the big rock boulders on the Northeast coast, you can often be so lucky to see the eagle rays fly by in formation. Especially around sunset, is a hectic time at this point.
For something different, try snorkeling in the little mangrove lagoon in the Southeast around sunset. If you move very slow, you might be able to get close to the small baby sharks hanging out in this area. (they are very shy)
Bikinis are absolutely okay at the beachfront, where suntaning beds and hammocks are up for grabs. We can recommend the food at Canopus guesthouse, and they have tables literally on the beach.
Go around the corner from the dive center, and you will find yourself on a long stretch of land, running next to the ocean. This place is awesome for sunsets! Look for baby sharks in the water, go running or join a game of football with the locals.
Itinerary - 5 days and 4 night - Independent adventurer
Day 1: Arrive Male and hop on a speed boat to Thulusdhoo. Sea Retreats Dive Centre will make your booking to Thulusdhoo and provide all details necessary for your transfer. You will be met at the harbour on arrival and taken to your guesthouse. Take a dip in the ocean or stroll around the island until evening time when it is time to check in with the Dive Centre to get an intro talk of where to go and what to do.
Day 2, 3 and 4: After breakfast, choose your mode of transport (Kayak or Paddleboard) pack some snacks, camera and sunscreen, and paddle off to a snorkeling reef, a nearby island or a solitary sandbank.
Soak up the sun in a sun lounger, swing in a hammock and sip a fruit juice in the sunset, until you seriously consider to miss your outward flight and carve souvenirs to just stay on the island forever!
Day 5: If you can track down any remaining sense
of responsibility, resist the urge to build a shanty on the beach and
catch a speedboat to the airport/Male for your next destination.
Please allow a minimum of 24 hours, after your last dive, before flying.
(some countries will allow you to fly after 18 hours on land).
